Job Summary
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Teacher, Adult Education will provide instruction in accordance with the Contra Costa County Board-adopted course curriculum, quality educational resources and in consideration of individual student needs. Education programs are conducted within a variety of instructional settings and are designed to meet the needs of an itinerant population, with open-entry and exit, through large group, small groups, and independent study. All programs serve resident adult inmates awaiting a hearing or serving a sentence. The Contra Costa County Office of Education is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence. The Adult Correctional Education Department offers educational opportunities to incarcerated adults through the Contra Costa Adult School Program and is a partnership between the Contra Costa County Office of Education and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department. The teacher in this position will develop and deliver a reentry peer support and human services certificate program that integrates career readiness, workforce development, deliver CDL pathway content, using student-centered instruction to support successful reentry, employment, and personal growth in correctional settings.

The teacher in this position will work M-F, 12 pm - 3 pm at the West County Detention Facility. Applicant must possess or qualify for: • Valid California Teaching Credential • Or eligibility to be granted a credential authorizing instruction in the specific designated academic or career technical subjects. • Bachelor’s degree. • Two years classroom teaching experience, preferred. • Experience and training working with alternative education students, preferred. • Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred • Experience in adult education, reentry, workforce development, human services, or CTE, preferred. • Valid California driver's license. • Must be able to pass and maintain security clearance at detention facilities.
