POSITION: There is an anticipated full time Band Director vacancy for grades 7-8, Intermediate School. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Instructs students in concert and marching band at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. · Provides musical outlets for students through participation in public concerts, festivals, assemblies, and marching band for participation in competition marching events. · Selects music for all instrumental instruction. · Maintains and makes minor repairs and adjustments to music instruments, including adjustments of reeds oiling valves and slides, changing drum heads, etc. · Holds before or after school rehearsals as needed for either individual, section ensemble grouping or full band. · Meets as scheduled with district music staff for briefing and planning; serves on district committees as requested. · Encourages and promotes participation of students in District and Southern California honor groups. · Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in State law and administrative regulations and procedures for the District. · Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior in order to provide a total atmosphere of learning. · Adapts the curriculum to individual needs through effective use of lesson plans, instructional materials, room environment, and related special services personnel. · Evaluates pupil's academic and social growth in a fair and equitable manner, including the preparation of progress reports. · Keeps appropriate records including attendance. · Communicates with parents through conferences and advises the parent-teacher booster activities. · Establishes and maintains rapport with school personnel. · Continues professional growth through in-service educational programs and/or self-selected professional activities. · Works cooperatively with District specialist in the improvement of instruction and the implementation of District policies. · Maintains a systematic file of all music and non-music activities affecting area of responsibility. · Maintains an inventory of, and is responsible for, district music instruments, chairs, music stands, and all music, music equipment, and accessories. · Responsible for physical environment of rehearsal facilities. · Assists the school counselors and principal in the placement of prospective instrumental music students. · Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday. · Participates in curriculum development programs. · Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. · Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals when applicable. SALARY: Appropriate placement on the teacher salary schedule. 185 duty days. The District may accept as much as 20 years of full time public school teaching experience for salary credit. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The candidate must hold a valid Single Subject Music Credential.
