This position will facilitate the implementation of the curriculum and lead professional development for site and district administrators, coach teachers, work directly with classroom teachers to fully implement the curriculum at school sites, collaborate with individual and small groups of teachers to support the implementation of instructional strategies and/or curriculum to improve the achievement of students and perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB TITLE:    Teacher on Special Assignment

POSITION SUMMARY:     Under the direction of the designated administrator, assist with the implementation of programs related directly to classroom instructional strategies.  Focus heavily on the use of data to help improve student achievement, engage in intervention activities aligned to State and District identified standards.  Provide services required for the assigned program.

Reports to:     Designated Administrator 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide support to teachers and assigned students as appropriate.
  • Assist with the implementation of an identified program.
  • Provides support and guidance to promote high expectations and standards for quality teaching and learning of all students.
  • Review the outlined needs of the program assigned and implement effective strategies.
  • Identify resources needed and relay that information to the appropriate parties as needed.
  • Provides professional development activities for instructional team as appropriate.
  • Implement all aspects of the assigned program to assure compliance with the established State and Federal laws.
  • Works with colleagues in a positive manner to facilitate the effective implementation of the assigned program.
  • Prepares documentation related to the program requirements.
  • Attends and conducts meetings, relating to the program activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Working Knowledge of:

  • Principles, trends, methods, strategies, practices and procedures pertaining to the program assigned.
  • State and Federal educational program requirements.
  • Legal mandates, applicable sections of the Education Code, District policies and regulations, laws, practices and procedures.
  • Modern data management, storage and retrieval systems.
  • Effective communication strategies, methods and techniques.
  • Effective classroom structure and instructional practices.

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize, direct and manage a program services system.
  • Assure compliance with applicable district policies, regulations, rules and procedures and State and Federal laws, codes and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing including preparation and delivery of oral presentations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and privileged communications.
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Effectively serve as a resource to identified supervisor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of groups and individuals.
  • Prepare, administer and monitor assigned budgets.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports.
  • Drive a vehicle to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

  • Persons performing services in this position classification will frequently exert 25 – 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping from brief periods of time to lengthy periods of time. 
  • Persons performing services in this position classification will incur frequent interruptions and work in a high-pressure environment. 
  • Essential job functions include:  Perceiving the nature of sound; near and far visual acuity; depth perception; providing oral and written communication; ability to speak and project voice in either an enclosed or open area; manual dexterity to handle and work with various materials, objects and equipment; driving a motor vehicle; and the ability to perform a variety of physical activities.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • No less than three (3) years successful teaching experience.
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education administration, curriculum and instruction, or other closely related area(s).

 LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid Driver’s License

Valid California Teaching/ and or Services  Credential
