One of 58 counties in California, Contra Costa County serves the 11th largest public-school student population in the state, supporting approximately 169,394 students. Officially established in 1932, CCCOE has a long history of providing direct services to some of the county’s most vulnerable students, including young people who are incarcerated, experiencing homelessness, in foster care, or who have severe physical or emotional challenges. SUBSTITUTE TEACHER Court and Community School Programs OVERVIEW There is a continuous need for qualified individuals to work as substitute teachers in educational programs offered by the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) when regular certificated staff are absent. THE POSITION Substitute Teachers, with the assistance of Instructional Assistants, carry out predetermined lesson plans. The CCCOE operates Mt. McKinley High School at the Juvenile Hall Facility in Martinez and CCAS in Richmond, Clayton, and Martinez. The CCCOE also operates the Golden Gate Community School which is an alternative education program serving the academic needs of students during their enrollment. All courses taken and credits earned are transferable to the student's home district. Staff will assist students in reaching their academic and career goals by implementing teaching strategies and techniques which will enable students to succeed personally, socially, and educationally. QUALIFICATIONS Substitute Teacher positions are required to possess a valid Teaching Credential OR valid 30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit OR able to apply for a 30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit (which requires a BA and Live scan (fingerprint clearance). Candidates that need to apply for the 30-day Emergency Substitute Permit should visit www.ctc.ca.gov. SCHEDULE Substitute positions have flexible workdays, approximately 6 to 6.5 hours per day.
