POSITION:

The Rowland Unified School District is seeking an outstanding educational leader to assume responsibilities as Principal of Alvarado Intermediate School.  A multi-ethnic National Blue Ribbon Intermediate school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates as a member of the District Management team, Secondary school Principals and Intermediate Cluster Groups and is directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent Secondary Schools Division. 
• Models participatory management in reflecting the mission, value and goals of the district. 
• Provides  site-based leadership to implement a systematic improvement process based upon Program Quality Criteria, Board Adopted Standards, and reform documents to establish a high quality instructional program to maximize student learning. 
• Selects supervises and evaluates school administrative, certificated, and classified staff, provides support for professional growth, recommends necessary remediation and encourages development of leadership potential.
• Develops school plans and procedures for the health, safety and conduct of students while in attendance or on the way to and from school.
• Directs decentralized budgeting and business operations of the school.
• Establishes and maintains a safe, neat, and clean learning environment for students and staff.
• Establishes and maintains favorable community relations with respect to the school involving parent and support groups, volunteers and advisory committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

• Principles, techniques, strategies, goals and objectives of public education, particularly at the intermediate level.
• Philosophical, economic and legal aspects of public education.
• Procedures and methods of organizational management and supervision.
• Modern curriculum and instructional trends for the middle school age child.
• Curriculum development, delivery of instructional programs, program supervision and evaluation focused on student outcomes.
• Evaluation techniques for determining program and personnel performance effectiveness.
• Human relations, conflict resolution and team building principals and procedures.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to:

•  Manage, lead, and direct the functions and activities of an intermediate school.
• Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
• Demonstrate effective instructional, organizational, and administrative leadership.
• Analyze problems, determine alternative solutions, and make effective decisions.
• Establish and maintain effective organizational and community relations.                                           

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The candidate must hold an appropriate California Administrative Credential authorizing service in a unified school district, an earned Master’s Degree, and have five years of broad experience. Two years at the intermediate school level (Grades 6-8) with evidence of increasing responsibilities is desirable.  Ability to communicate in a second language (Spanish, Mandarin, Filipino or Korean) is desirable.
