Requirements / Qualifications

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school; good work history demonstrating positive work habits, reliability and responsibility. Some experience in driving trucks or similar heavy equipment is desirable. Previous experience as a school bus driver is very desirable. Ability to pass the District Proficiency Examination at the level appropriate to the job classification. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Safe driving operations and practices; vehicle safety signals, including lights, wipers and mirrors. Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of school buses and transportation of students. Record keeping. Gassing and servicing of buses. Cleaning of buses. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES (continued) ABILITY TO: Maintain order among students using the bus. Check bus for safety equipment and refer to mechanic as necessary. Gas, oil, check tires and wash and clean buses on a regular basis. Handle special education children/students who may present special problems Handle bus breakdowns on the road properly. Prepare and transmit written and statistical reports. Work effectively with parents who may have complaints or problems. Assimilate training effectively and efficiently. Follow oral and written directions carefully. Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties. ****Please submit the following materials:**** Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license, plus previous safe driving record. Possess and maintain a valid California School Bus Driver's Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol. Possess and maintain a First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross, or pass equivalent test given by the California Highway Patrol. Qualify for Bus Driver training as required every two years from a Bus Driver Trainer.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Maturity, especially in dealing with children/students, including special education children/students; positive and constructive attitudes; unflappable personality under crowd or stress situations.
