RESOURCE TEACHER – LEARNING HANDICAPPED BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: To provide an integrated adjunctive educational program for Learning Handicapped and Physically Handicapped students which provides the assistance necessary to maintain their enrollment in regular education. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Shall submit his/her goals and objectives as they relate to the basic program goals and objectives; job description and IEP of students for the current year. 2.Teach assigned students in a resource program such portions of basic educational programs as are in keeping with each pupil’s IEP. 3.Provide ongoing assessment and participate in the team process of setting student learner objectives for each IEP. 4.Maintain good communication with other staff members, administrators and parents by sharing teaching techniques and other information regarding Special Education. 5.Provide continuous supervision and direction for children assigned to program. 6.Provide proper student control and suitable learning environment that creates a positive atmosphere for the growth of the individual child. 7.Provide constant supervision for the welfare and safety of pupils under his/her direction and is responsible for correctly filing all accident reports for pupils. 8.Responsible for reporting all illnesses, health and safety problems to the nurse and/or school site administrator. 9.Contribute to and implement new ideas, materials and techniques suitable to group and individual needs based in IEP’S staffs and ancillary staff and Curriculum Consultant input. 10.Contribute to in-service planning and implementation for parents and general education at the school site level. 11.Plan IAP’S jointly with team members, keeping parents informed at all times of progress and program changes with comprehensive report of progress at the annual review. 12.Work closely and cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, the program director, curriculum consultants, site administrator, speech specialist, nurse, psychologist and community agencies to help provide a complete program for the individual pupil. 13.Communicate with and supervise the aide under his/her direction regarding curriculum needs and other duties. 14.Be sensitive about confidential matters concerning children, parents, school and working relationships, responding to those in a professional manner. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Make regular entries in anecdotal records on curriculum checklists and other reports as required. 2.Adhere to schedules and duties assigned at school site. 3.Staff individual students in accordance with established staffing procedures. 4.Participate in scheduled County Office in-service training meetings and take advantage of workshops, conferences, etc., to provide for professional growth. 5.Provide daily schedule and substitute plan. 6.Maintain and use an up-to-date plan for his/her aides’ and substitutes’ use. 7.Support parent group with parent suggested activities. 8.Other duties as assigned by the Director, Programs for Learning Handicapped, the Special Education Program Specialist or the County Superintendent of Schools. SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED: Under the immediate direction of the site administrator and the Special Education Specialist.
