CLASS TITLE: ELECTRICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Trades Supervisor-Electrical, perform skilled electrical work in the inspection, repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical systems, wiring and equipment; supply District facilities and equipment with electrical power.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Inspect, repair, install, test, service and maintain electrical systems, including conduit and new wiring, light and power circuits, motor appliances, generators and switches; maintain work area in a safe and clean condition.
Install electrical wiring and systems; assemble conduit, bend conduit and pull wire; place conduit in appropriate spacing; wire main and sub electrical panels; plan and install new circuits or replace existing circuits as needed.
Troubleshoot and repair a variety of electrical assemblies, devices and equipment, including lighting units, motors and electrical control equipment.
Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions; trace out wiring, perform diagnostic tests on system components and replace defective wires and parts, including switches, receptacles and fuses.
Install and service control equipment, including start, stop and on/off stations, overload current switches and emergency stop stations for motors and other equipment.
Install interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliances.
Wire buildings; replace fuses; install, repair and service electrical panels.
Assemble, install and repair lighting fixtures, wiring and controls; install and repair ballasts, sockets and other lighting parts, wiring and assemblies.
Plan, organize and lay out assigned tasks; interpret electrical plans, diagrams, blue prints, sketches and specifications; research and requisition or purchase electrical supplies, materials and systems needed.
Assure work complies with applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.
Operate a variety of specialized equipment, including meters, gauges, probes, pipe threader, wire pullers, roto-hammer and electric saws; drive a District vehicle to conduct work.
Communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and coordinate activities.
Assist other maintenance personnel by performing semi-skilled and unskilled duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years journey-level experience in the electrical trade.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record.
