POSITION DESCRIPTION:  OCEAA’s TOSA: Intervention/Instructional Coach is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing a school-wide intervention program and coaching teachers in effective instructional strategies and curriculum development. Supervises work of classified employee(s) assigned to intervention program.


 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The TOSA will teach reading intervention groups/intervention during and after school.
  2. The TOSA will train and support teachers in the implementation of research based practices and will monitor classroom instruction and interventions.
  3. The TOSA will serve as a support for modeling effective lessons, working with teachers to provide professional development and establishing vertical articulation in the school wide curriculum.
  4. The TOSA will help coordinate during and will train Instructional Aide(s)/After School teachers (as needed) to teach in small groups of struggling students and support the after school intervention program. 
  5. Assists teachers in evaluating and examining student assessment data, and refining intervention activities to address individual student needs.
  6. Collaborates with OCEAA team members to improve own and others’ instructional practices; shares best practices.
  7. Researches and provides information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative instructional practices through various activities such as:
  1. Individual discussions (informal and formal);
  2. Coaching sessions;
  3. Demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion/analysis;
  4. Observations and feedback.
  1. Actively participates in professional development activities, including: training sessions and working with the ILT and administration; designs and leads professional development.
  2. Works closely with classroom teachers to identify unique student needs; collaborates with team members and to address learning challenges.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of and support of OCEAA’s mission, vision, two-way model, goals and philosophy, values, essential standards, SPAA (Strategic Plan for Academic Achievement), policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and ethical behavior.
  4. Maintains paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
  5. Serves as Principal’s designee as needed.
  6. Directly supervises and evaluates instructional assistant(s).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
    1. In-depth knowledge of best practices in literacy (and biliteracy) instruction, including interventions
    2. Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles
    3. Knowledge of California Common Core State Standards (Spanish CCSS also)
    4. Knowledge of curriculum development
    5. Knowledge of strategic planning
    6. Knowledge of assessment and data analysis
    7. Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS)
    8. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
    9. Ability and willingness to reflect and improve
    10. Ability to actively listen, creatively problem solve and build relationships with colleagues, parents, and community
    11. Ability to coach colleagues constructively, and foster a reflective practice community
    12. Minimum educational level:
      1. Bachelor’s degree
      2. Valid California Teaching Credential-bilingual preferred
      3. TOSA training in literacy preferred
    13. Experience required:
      1. 2+ successful years as a classroom teacher, including successful RtI implementation
