Position Duties & Description: Bilingual Elementary Teacher
Xinaxcalmecac Academia Semillas del Pueblo Charter School - 4736 Huntington Drive South, Los Angeles, CA 90032
Xinaxcalmecac Academia Semillas del Pueblo is a well established K-8 autonomous charter school in East Los Angeles. Our mission is to provide urban children of immigrant native families an excellent education founded upon their own language, cultural values, and global realities through a community-based school to fulfill our commitment to justice, freedom, and dignity in education.
Conditions of Employment: This is a contracted full-time, benefited position that is covered by the State Teachers Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon evaluation.
Special Physical Qualifications:
1. Must be able to maintain a high level of aerobic activity for up to one hour, with short anaerobic bursts.
2. Must be able to run one mile.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate evidence of the following:
- Clear Multiple Subject Credential and BCLAD
- International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Certification
- Academic Spanish Language Fluency and Certification
- Experience in working in an inner city public school
- Knowledge of best teaching practices, especially language and critical pedagogy
- Willingness to embrace a multilingual & multicultural learning environment
- Experience in parent/community outreach and organizing
- Engagement in personal professional development
- Commitment to collective working environments
- Technological literacy

Duties and responsibilities:
- Carry out the mission and vision of Xinaxcalmecac Academia Semillas del Pueblo
- Abide by the Charter and Personnel Handbook of Xinaxcalmecac Academia Semillas del Pueblo
- Provide a quality, enriched and powerful curriculum
- Provide continual assessment of student progress and maintain accurate student records
- Continually evaluate classroom performance to meet the needs of the students
- Provide an effective room environment that reflects and facilitates the academic program
- Actively participate in the governance, curricular and staff development of the school
- Provide peer assistance to fellow teachers
- Continued professional growth in intellectual, cultural and physical development
- Actively strive for continuous and open communication with parents and community members
- Participate in ongoing peer evaluations
- Maintain regular, punctual, attendance
- Actively lead Teacher Collectives
- Participate in all pertinent parent and community meetings
- Participate in Professional Development activities including critical pedagogy, martial arts and cultural dance.
