POSITION: Evening ESL Teacher, Beginning High
WORK PERIOD: November 2012 to June 2013
. Monday through Thursday – 10 hours/week
(2.5hrs/night 6:45 am to 9:30 pm)

SALARY: Placement on HEA Adult Education Hourly Teacher Salary Schedule
DESCRIPTION:
- Provide instruction in a positive learning environment that enhances the development of English language fluency in listening, speaking, reading and writing as appropriate to the particular proficiency level outlined in the ESL Model Standards
- Deliver competency-based ESL instruction to enable adult students to participate more fully in American society
- Integrate English language and literacy and civics instruction
- Develop lessons that ensure student success in E L Civics assessments
- Participate in department-wide initial testing and placement of students in September
- Administer CASAS tests according to ESL testing calendar in an appropriate test-taking environment
- Identify students needing make-up CASAS and E L Civics testing and notify teacher-in-charge
- Use TOPSPro reports and CASAS testing to target instruction for areas of student need
- Use time in the computer lab to augment classroom instruction
- Complete and submit all required data and accountability documentation such as ADA sheets, Entry/Update forms, and time cards in a timely and accurate manner
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid non-emergency California teaching credential authorizing instruction to adults in ESL
- Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience with adult ESL students to include ability to develop and present lessons that include a variety of innovative communication activities
- Proven experience in successfully teaching adults who place at the beginning ESL levels
- Demonstrated ability to maintain adequate attendance in an open-entry/open-exit environment
- Experience working with CASAS testing and familiarity in using TOPSPro reports
- Experience in developing lessons to ensure student success for E L Civics assessments
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or willingness to deliver instruction utilizing available technology such as A/V, interactive whiteboards, document cameras, computer lab
- Demonstrated ability to be accurate and timely in submitting required paperwork to school office
