Objectives:
To ensure the quality of the educational programs offered at Discovery Science Center while fulfilling the mission of educating young minds, assisting teachers, and increasing public understanding and appreciation of science, math and technology.
Primary focus will be the Discovery Science Center After-School programs, consisting of assemblies and science classes throughout the school year.
Responsibilities:
• Directly reports to Director of Education, Off-site Programs.
• Conducts educational programs primarily off-site (at school sites) including assembly-style programs and science workshops for students 4 – 12th grades.
• Explains science concepts aligned with the CA Science Content Standards using hands-on activities and demonstrations detailed in the provided lesson plans.
• Assists in maintaining high quality programs.
• Procures, maintains, and inventories equipment and materials for programs.
• Interacts with students and adults.
• Attends regular meetings with the Director of Education, Off-site Programs.
• Drives to and arrives promptly at schools throughout Southern California and maintains a flexible schedule.
• Performs other duties as needed.
• 12.5 hours per week in the afternoon
Qualifications:
• Quick learner; flexible
• Ability to work with school groups, educators, community-based organizations
• Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Knowledge of a second language preferable, but not required.
• Vehicle drivers license and insurance.
Education/Experience:
• Experience working in educational institution
• Comfortable learning and teaching science concepts.
