TITLE: Skilled Teachers for Creative STEM Enrichment
Wizbots (www.wizbots.com) is on a mission to transform girls and boys experiences of science, math and engineering through hands-on engagement with robotics-based materials and curriculum in a fun, social, and technically sophisticated learning environment. We provide year-round programs in partnership with public and private schools, and community centers. We apply laptops, LEGO Mindstorms NXT micro-processors, motors, sensors, and diverse arts, crafts and building materials to equip our mobile robotics lab, which is ideally suited for rapid prototyping of a practically infinite array of inventions and games. Our unique curriculum is designed to activate interest, emphasize creativity and take kids from Novice to Master applying math, physics, programming, structures, mechanisms and design.
Do you have the right stuff to be an Inventor Mentor?
Our labs are led by great people, and they make all the difference in the world. We call them ‘Inventor Mentors’ reflecting the role they play in nurturing inventive thinking and skill development in kids. Inventor Mentors are confident, improvisational, creative, and fun-loving. They love working with kids, and are passionate about helping kids learn the things they ought to know. They respect kids desires to make choices in what they learn, and when they learn it, and understand that kids have different interests, and develop at different rates.
What Wizbots will look like for you
1. You will be trained in the curriculum and culture of Wizbots and provided a mobile robotics lab of your own, and taught how to take care of it.
2. You will be assigned 5 schools of your own in your community, and lead after-school programs 5 afternoons per week during the school year. On average, you will be working 2 hours per day during weekday afternoons of school term. This includes 90 minutes of Lab time, and additional time for preparation, and communication with parents.
3. Subject to demand and your availability, you will lead summer camps, and, as schedules permit, engage with the community through weekend events, and birthday parties.
4. You will have the support of the Wizbots team, and collaborate with other mentors.
5. You will build long term relationships with the local schools, and families in your community. Kids enroll season after season, and once we start in a school we usually stay there long term.
6. You will find the lab environment to be about the most fun and flexible way to engage STEM subjects with kids out there.
Why Wizbots?
If you like to teach, and are available, you will find Wizbots a great fit: the mission is compelling; the program is unique; the impact on kids is direct, and immediate. Finally, we believe the compensation is very competitive.
