Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
The Teaching Assistant assists the Lead teacher in creating a supportive classroom environment by delivering concepts, supporting the students’ needs, and providing a full range of support to the assigned Teacher. Serves as support staff to the classroom teacher; implements feedback; communicates all concerns and questions directly to the Teacher. Essential Duties include: Assists Teacher in evaluating students’ academic and emotional growth, keeping records and materials, and grading assignments. Assists the substitute teacher in the absence of the Teacher. May qualify as a substitute teacher with valid substitute permit. Attends in-service training meetings, parent-teacher conferences, case conferences, school special events and workshops. Organizes and maintains the classroom files for each individual student. Supervises individual students in crisis as requested by supervisors. May be expected to instruct an elective, club or physical education. Supervises students on the lunch yard and during other transition or non-instruction periods. Maintains on-site hours from 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. Qualifications/Experience: AA or BA or pass a test as required by NCLB. Experience with school-age children in a school setting. Related college coursework preferred.
