Our mission is to provide innovative enrichment, leadership, and learning opportunities that affirm diversity, engage the community, and empower youth to achieve greater academic and personal success.

We are looking for quality hourly staff, Youth Leaders, who are passionate about mentoring and teaching youth.  The Youth Leaders in our program instruct, lead, inspire and supervise 20 students after school.  They help students with homework, teach academic and enrichment classes, support students with fluency and writing activities, and help build students’ leadership skills.

JOB SUMMARY:

Youth Leaders work directly with an assigned class of approximately 20 students, acting as a positive adult role model.  Youth leaders’ ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, is critical to success.

HOURS:

You must be able to work every afternoon, Monday through Friday

DUTIES:

•Commit to a full-year program with excellent attendance

•Create engaging academic and enrichment activities/lessons

•Serve as a positive adult role model for children by displaying appropriate dress, speech, work ethic and attitude

•Record and maintain daily attendance and other documentation as required

•Ensure that classrooms and program space are clean, organized and safe

•Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging that kids want to be in

•Use positive behavior and classroom management techniques with children

•Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners

•Attend and actively participate in all required staff development workshops, meetings and trainings.

•Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment and physical activity.

REQUIREMENTS:

•High School Diploma or GED required;

•48 semester college units or 60 quarter college units preferred or passing the district level Instructional Aide Exam.

•Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)

•TB Test

•Time management, planning, and organizational skills

•Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal)

•Ability to influence and motivate others

•Ability to follow directions, but to take initiative when necessary

•Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public school setting

•Ability to work with diverse ethnic, gender, age and cultural groups.

ENVIRONMENT:

School Site (indoor and outdoor) and Classroom Environment.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Monitoring student behavior during program activities, assisting students with homework, hearing and speaking to provide instruction, directing program activities, bending at the waist, kneeling, standing and walking for extended periods of time
