The Merced County Office of Education assists Merced County’s 20 school districts through support and oversight of curriculum and instruction, alternative education, business services, early education, technology, migrant education, special education, and teacher credentialing. MCOE is led by the elected Merced County Superintendent of Schools and governed by the Merced County Board of Education. While serving as a focal point to facilitate local school/government/community partnerships, MCOE is responsible for the fiscal oversight of each school district in Merced County, hears appeals for student expulsion hearings and interdistrict transfers and operates Green Meadows Outdoor School.

MERCED COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION POSITION TITLE: General Utility Worker SALARY RANGE: SCL/30.5 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Satisfactory results from pre-employment physical required. Education and/or Training: High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Experience: Over one year of experience in custodial and grounds maintenance work. Credentials and/or Skills: Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment skillfully and efficiently; use basic tools in performing minor repairs; perform manual labor; follow verbal and written directions. Proof of valid CA Driver’s license and minimum amount of liability insurance required by law. DMV printout required. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Training: Additional training or certifications to janitorial/custodial work. Experience: Experience operating heating and ventilating equipment. Credentials and/or Skills: N/A SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under general supervision of the Maintenance, Operations & Transportation Supervisor, Business Services Department, is responsible for assigned duties required to maintain MCOE buildings/facilities in clean and safe condition and within prescribed safety/security standards. Duties to be performed at any Merced County Office of Education (MCOE) site as directed. This position is exempt from the classified bargaining. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Drives light truck in making deliveries to various agencies and offices to and from worksites. 2. Sorts, packs and loads books, supplies, equipment and furniture. 3. Performs custodial/groundskeeping duties as assigned, including but not limited to: dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing and waxing floors, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows and walls, cleaning restrooms, sweeping sidewalks, cleaning parking areas, mowing lawns and pruning shrubs. 4. Operates standard power cleaning equipment. 5. Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent lights. 6. Requests and replenishes supplies. 7. Sets up rooms for special events. 8. Moves and arranges furniture and equipment. 9. Changes heating and air conditioning filters and sets/programs thermostats as required. 10. Does painting as directed. 11. Operates various types of equipment/machinery in performing grounds maintenance. 12. Turns out lights and locks doors and windows. 13. Makes minor non-technical repairs; reports the need for repairs. 14. Patrols buildings to prevent vandalism. 15. Performs other related essential functions as assigned.
