Directly Responsible to:  Director, Maintenance/Operations


Primary Functions:  Under general supervision, performs skilled, semi-skilled and limited skilled tasks in the construction trades and performs general maintenance and repair of District facilities and equipment. Ability to perform small, general repairs and maintenance of equipment and machinery, carpentry, painting, concrete and asphalt work, gas and electrical welding and fabrication, set up of equipment and loading and unloading of tools, materials and supplies.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

•     Assist in locating, ordering and obtaining parts and maintaining equipment records.

•     Assists other skilled trades as a helper when necessary.

•     Makes repairs to furniture, cabinets, desks, chairs and other equipment.

•     Installation of flooring, ceilings, wallboard, covings and moldings.

•     Repairs on small electrical appliances.

•     Builds and installs walls, partitions, bulletin and chalk boards, repairs and assists in hanging doors.

•     Patching of concrete, asphalt repairs and crack-fill.

•     Builds forms and mixes, pours and finishes concrete for sidewalks, steps, foundations and various repairs.

•     Perform general building maintenance such as painting, wall and window repair and carpentry.

•     Perform gas and electric welding and fabrication.

•      Perform general assistance with grounds maintenance such as grading, trenching, hauling debris and snow removal.

•      Assembles, sets up, disassembles, moves, installs, anchors and repairs athletic and playground related equipment, moves and sets up furniture, risers, chairs, etc.

•     Uses forklift, skip loader, backhoe, tractor, saws, drills and other construction/maintenance related power and hand tools.

•      Maintains gas, oil and water in assigned vehicle.

•      Performs other maintenance duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance/Operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:   Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and one year of general maintenance experience; or some combination of education, training and experience that produces the requisite knowledge and ability.

EXPERIENCE:  Four years experience in maintenance and/or mechanical areas with special training.

SKILLS:  Passing score on written test.

LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSA valid  California  Class  C  driver's  license, a good  driving  record  and  the ability  to maintain  insurability  under  the District's vehicle  insurance policy.    Class  A  driver's license desirable.  Upon acceptance of the District's offer of employment, new hires may be required to complete a baseline physical examination prior to the first day of employment.

Mental Demands - While performing  the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret  data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use shop mathematics; observe and interpret  situations;  deal  with  changing,  intensive  deadlines; and interact  with District management, staff and others encountered in the course of work

The employee frequently works in extreme outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and on slippery and uneven surfaces. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is /can be loud.

Fingerprinting/Physical required of successful candidate:   Fingerprint clearance will be required and conviction records will be checked.  Cost of fingerprinting is $69.00 (DOJ and FBI) and will be the responsibility of the appointee.  Must pass pre-employment physical.  School district will assume responsibility for physical. 

Tuberculosis test (TB) required of successful candidate:  Certificate showing proof of being free from active tuberculosis.
