Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas. MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (Grades 6 - 8)
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
1. Directly responsible to the principal.
2. May be assigned to perform administrative functions for certificated and/or classified personnel.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists in the administration of the District educational program in assigned attendance area and may administer a District educational program as assigned by the principal.
2. Actively assists the building principal to improve the instructional program.
3. Participates in formulation of District policy proposals.
4. May be assigned specific duties involving both the instructional and non-instructional aspects of elementary and middle school administration.
5. Organizes inservice training activities including faculty meeting and workshops; provides individual assistance to teachers as assigned by the principal.
6. Assists the building principal in maintaining working relationships with professional
organizations, Parent-Teacher Association, and parent education groups.
7. Acts as building administrator in the absence of the principal.
8. Directs and supervises personnel as assigned by the principal.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Academic
a. A valid California administrative credential.
b. Master’s degree in education or other allied field.
2. Professional Experience
a. Five years of successful teaching experience at varied elementary and/or high school levels.
b. Demonstrated ability as an educational leader through contributions to inservice and research.
3. Related Experience
Leadership experience in community, professional, and/or youth organizations.
