Assistant Professor, Administration of Justice

We are searching for an experienced Assistant Professor, Administration of Justice at our Santa Maria Campus facility.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE

 

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty assignment in the Administration of Justice program that may include reassigned time for program coordination. The instructional assignment includes teaching a wide range of Administration of Justice courses leading to certificates and degrees (refer to the college Catalog for current courses and certificates); holding office hours; and engaging in college service activities as defined in the collective bargaining agreement.

August 2020, pending board approval.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

 

Hiring salary range is $55,831 to $79,592 depending upon education and experience.

Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the district as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position. SCREENING PROCESS

 

A committee will review applications. Meeting minimum qualifications does not ensure a candidate an interview; therefore, it is important that the application be thorough and detailed. Applicants will be assessed on the breadth and depth of education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. A limited number of applicants will be invited for an on-campus interview at the college at their own expense. All interviewed candidates will be asked to present a teaching demonstration.

Required Qualifications:

 

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE

 

The governing board seeks an individual with the following minimum qualifications:

 

1. Any bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution and two years of professional experience in an occupation directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this assignment; OR an associate degree from an accredited institution and six years of professional experience directly related to this assignment.

 

2. Master's degree preferred.

 

3. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities.

 

4. Knowledge of and/or experience in:

 

• diverse teaching strategies and demonstrated ability to use a variety of these strategies in the classroom to address diverse learning styles;

• evaluation and assessment methods for student performance and program effectiveness;

• the content of courses listed in the Administration of Justice course offerings listed in the college catalog;

• developing and managing operational budgets to requisition and receive supplies and materials.

 

6. Demonstrated ability to:

 

• effectively teach at least five (5) of the 13 courses in the program (listed in the college catalog under Administration of Justice);

 

• effectively and appropriately, communicate verbally and in writing within a multicultural and diverse working environment;

 

• design curriculum; plan, research, develop, recommend, and organize instructional materials according to the official course outline;

 

• coordinate with supervisor and Human Resources to recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate part-time faculty;

 

• act as primary contact for the Administration of Justice program;

 

• schedule classes for the Administration of Justice program;

 

• identify and use student learning outcomes and assessment for continuous program improvements;

 

• facilitate the assessment, collection, and submission of student learning outcome data;

 

• effectively use contemporary technology to perform the duties and responsibilities for the instruction and coordination assignments;

 

• work with and assist people with a broad range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational interests and goals;

 

• perform and support outreach and articulation.
