JOB DESCRIPTION

El Camino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its team. This is a joint position between the Engineering and Mathematics departments. The position is to provide leadership to the Engineering department and assist in the growth and development of its programs and courses. Additional responsibilities for this position include instruction in math courses. Teaching assignments may include engineering courses in Introduction to Engineering, Circuits, Statics and additional engineering courses. Additional teaching assignments may include developmental (non- transferable) mathematics classes, and university-transferable courses including statistics, calculus and differential equations. Other professional responsibilities include curriculum and program development; assessment of student learning; participation in department, division, and college-wide meetings; and other related duties.

The position requires participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in any field of engineering; or engineering; OR

Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, biological science or chemistry; OR

Bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, engineering technology or engineering AND a professional engineer’s license; OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND

Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Interest in providing leadership within the Engineering department and assist with the growth and development of its programs and courses.

Recent experience teaching engineering and mathematics at the community college level.

At least three years' experience teaching engineering and mathematics at any level.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of transfer level engineering and math subject areas.

Experience and interest in teaching: Statistics, Online or Hybrid courses, Developmental Math (Elementary Algebra and less advanced)

Experience using technology to improve student learning, such as course management systems, online homework systems, computer algebra systems, and graphing calculators.

Experience using and developing a variety of teaching methodologies to engage students. 18 graduate units in engineering

Experience examining and remediating one’s instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.

Demonstrated skill with addressing issues of equity.

Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive methodologies, particularly as it relates to students’ lives, interests, and communities.

motivation? How do you assess whether these strategies are effective?

2. Please describe your knowledge of and experience with using student learning outcomes assessment to improve student learning. What were the key factors in creating learning success, particularly for diverse students?

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Contract shall be for full-time, tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2019 – 2020 academic year, beginning August 22, 2019. A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process. SALARY

The starting salary ranges from $64,547-$93,953 depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.
