Position Summary
General Responsibilities:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: counseling services and/or teaching assigned classes, if assigned, under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co- curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Assignment Responsibilities
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Working in close conjunction with the coaching staff, athletic director, eligibility clerk, Student Personnel Assistant, and Instruction Aids in a cooperative team effort to ensure appropriate academic advisement and progress monitoring of student-athletes.
• Participating in the planning and implementation of the Student Success Plan activities, including counseling, developing Student Education Plan (iSEPs), facilitating course planning, follow-up, and support student success programs as directed.
• Studying the needs, interests, abilities, achievements, and aptitudes of student-athletes.
• Making recommendations to assist the college in fulfilling its obligation to students consistent with the Students Success and Support Program (SSSP) Plan.
• Preparing and maintaining counseling records using current technology, relaying pertinent information to college personnel as needed, and respecting the confidentiality of such records as required by law.
• Providing counseling for issues impacting retention, persistence, and academic success, and referring student-athletes to resources as appropriate and necessary.
• Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes from matriculation to graduation.
• Assisting in the coordination of academic support services with existing college programs.
• Providing specific eligibility counseling and academic support to student-athletes, to ensure the student-athlete is making progress toward educational objectives.
• Meeting with recruits to provide an overview of available academic, career services, and personal development opportunities.
• Assisting in the planning and development of the student-athletes’ academic schedule to ensure compliance with California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) requirements.
• Serving as liaison with college employees to enhance the academic success of student athletes.
• Staying abreast of and assuring adherence to CCCAA, NCAA, NAIA, and District rules and regulations.
• Distributing reports to coaching staff regarding the progress of assigned student-athletes.
• Ensuring all assigned tasks are in compliance with district, Big 8 Conference, and CCCAA rules.
• Conducting seminars on initial eligibility for new athletes.
• Registering and scheduling student athletes for classes according to pre-season and in-season competition.
• Assisting student athletes in completing their comprehensive student educational plans according to CCCAA bylaws and deadlines.
• Attending eligibility meetings with the Athletic Director and presenting eligibility guidelines to athletes.
• Resolving transfer issues: 2-4 (2-year college to a 4-year college) transfer, 4-2-4 (4-year college to a 2-year college to a 4-year college) transfer, 4-4 (4-year college to a 4-year college) transfer, in addition to determining eligibility.
• Understanding and communicating the eligibility rules for a Division I, II, III, NAIA universities.
• Understanding and communicating the 40-60-80% transfer rule, full-time, part-time status, red shirt, grey shirt, and medical red shirt status.
• Assisting student-athletes with scheduling of courses, ensuring that course schedules are balanced and fit the time and season constraints of the student-athletes.
• Utilizing standard grade reports to communicate student-athlete progress to appropriate constituents.
• Communicating with coaches through regularly scheduled academic meetings; sharing detailed information regarding the ongoing academic progress of student-athletes.
• Serving as a resource for district and campus faculty, administration, counseling faculty, and students on athletic requirements.
• Attending and participating in regional and statewide conferences and workshops on athletics.
• Assisting students in making decisions regarding their career and academic goals.
• Assisting in submitting student-athlete nominations for college, Big 8 Conference, CCCAA, and national academic athletic awards.
• Providing counseling to students facing personal and social problems.
• Developing and maintaining close working relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high schools, neighboring colleges, and community resource agencies.
• Fostering good high school and college relationships and networks.
• Providing drop-in counseling.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
The assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution, completed by January 2, 2019, in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling; OR, have a bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees, AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR, hold a California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent.*
2.
