TEACHER OF THE SEVERELY HANDICAPPED
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, provide a special education classroom for severely handicapped students to instruct and demonstrate essential skills and information necessary for functioning as independently as possible.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Participates in the preparation of the IEP and implements written instructional plans for students.
Maintains complete records of change in behavior as stated in objectives and methods used.
Holds conferences with other teachers who wish to discuss behavior or learning problems of students in their classes.
Assesses and evaluates students and coordinates auxiliary services when necessary.
Holds conferences with parents of students.
Participates in all required meetings relating to students.
At set intervals, review student's progress in meeting behavioral objectives to determine if student has made adequate progress to be returned to regular TMR classroom.
Will, upon return of student to regular classroom, prepare a record of methods used to maintain acceptable behavior.
Participates in various in-services to upgrade skills necessary to modify behavior.
Perform related duties as assigned.

instruction

individual and
group needs.
g. Assess and
diagnose
educational
deficits and
growth.
Experience:
Special education teacher experience is desirable, but not mandatory.
Credential:
Specialist Credential in Special Education - Severely Handicapped
Restricted Specialist Credential in Special Education - Severely Handicapped
Education Specialist Instruction Credential - Moderate/Severe Disabilities
SUPERVISION:
Works under the joint supervision of the principal and the district's Director of Student Services.

Valid California Education Specialist (Moderate/Severe or Extensive Support Needs) Credential with Autism Authorization and EL Authorization. District will consider fully qualified interns. You MUST submit your Intern Eligibility letter from the college/university as proof of your credential and the letter must also state that the program includes EL authorization.
