RESOURCE SPECIALIST TEACHER/SPECIAL EDUCATION DEFINITION: To provide instructional planning, remedial instruction and special education services to individuals with identified learning disabilities who are assigned to the Resource Specialist Program by an I.E.P. Team for less than one-half of the school day. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: a. provide appropriate instruction, as prescribed in the Individual Educational Plan, for students who have specific learning disabilities or for whom this is the least restrictive environment; b. participate as a member of the I.E.P. Team; c. develop, update and implement students' I.E.P.s annually; d. administer approved achievement and diagnostic tests for initial evaluation or reevaluation of students referred or assigned to the resource specialist program, including the assessment needed to monitor student progress annually; e. coordinate the educational program of students assigned to the R.S. program (with regular education teachers and staff); f. help coordinate efforts to appropriately involve parents of R.S. students in I.E.P. proceedings and in the implementation of the individual's educational plan; g. prepare lesson plans (for teacher and aide) within a collaborative or pull-out model of service h. supervision of aide(s) assigned to the classroom. i. to work cooperatively with the psychologist and regular education staff in implementing the Hughes Bill as needed; j. prepare a Transition Plan and coordinate work experience and/or on-the-job training programs (students sixteen (16) years and older) k. maximize mainstreaming for each student to the greatest extent possible based on individual needs and I.E.P. plans; k. other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: a. learning theory, particularly for children with exceptional needs; b. instructional materials; c. special education teaching techniques; d. academic assessment instruments and how to administer them; e. Perceptual development and related remedial techniques. Ability to: a. develop and provide appropriate instruction; b. assess student's academic needs and performance; c. write Individual Educaion Plans (I.E.P.s) and keep I.E.P. file current and orderly; d. conference with parents and teachers; e. work as a member of the special education team; f. work as a team within the in-class consultation model. Experience: Three years of special education teaching experience is desirable. Education/credential: A clear Learning Handicapped credential; eligible for clear or preliminary Resource Certificate of Competence. SUPERVISION: Works under the joint supervision of the principal and the district's Coordinator of Student Services and Special Projects. Principal is responsible for the evaluation. Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate disabilities) or Mild to Moderate Extensive Support Needs credential with EL and Autism authorization or eligible for an Intern Mild to Moderate Extensive Support Needs credential.
