PRESCHOOL PARAEDUCATOR DEFINITION Works under the direction and supervision of the Preschool Teacher and assists in the implementation of the total Preschool Program as defined by the Preschool Management Plan. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES • Assist the Preschool Teacher in the preparation of activities • Provide individual and small group help to students in readiness to learn, social skills, self help skills, language development, and motor skills development • Assist Preschool Teacher in parent contacts/conferences • Assist Preschool Teacher in the implementation of the Preschool Management Program which meets the unique learning needs of preschool aged children. • Responsible for working in individual and small group settings. • Assists the Preschool Teacher in working with parents through daily activities requiring parent contacts or parent communication and assists parents working with children; and • Assist with assessment of students as needed; • Sanitize toys, tools and equipment used in classroom; • Prepare and serve snacks and related clean up • Performs related work as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: • High school diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (GED); and • Associate of Arts degree or 48 semester units (NCLB) • A minimum of six college semester units in Early Childhood Education coursework DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: • Early childhood development; • General needs and behaviors of children; • General clerical skills and procedures; • Basic skills -- reading, writing, oral language, and mathematics; and • Basic nutrition Ability to: • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English; • Speak and write Spanish; • Supervise a group of children or an individual child in various learning activities; • Maintain a sympathetic understanding of the problems and needs of children; • Perform a wide variety of duties which will enhance the instructional program; • Maintain cooperative relationships with people contacted during the course of work; • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school records; • Plan materials independently for reinforcing the learning of math and reading skills; and Experience: • Previous work relating to preschool aged children and/or child development training. Submit Classified Letter of Intent. You may pick up form at District Office or download from web site. High School or GED Diploma AA or 48 semester units (with a minimum of six semester units in early Childhood Education coursework) or proof of passing score on CODESP test if the test was taken prior to June 30, 2008, when District was offering test. If you submit CODESP test (dated prior to 6/30/08) you must also submit proof of a minimum of six college semester units in Early Childhood Education coursework. When submitting Classified Letter of Intent please submit copies of transcripts with the Early Childhood Education units highlighted.

If your present work schedule conflicts with the posted hours, you would need to resign from that position if offered the job. The hours are not flexible.
