After School Site Program Leader
DEFINITION:

Under the general supervision of the After School Coordinator/Director of Student Services, the Site Program Leader will assist with a wide variety of academic, social, recreational and community activities for the school aged child care enrichment program. This position will specifically provide homework assistance and tutoring, fun learning activities that are curriculum driven, and enrichment and/or recreation activities such as sports and games, arts and crafts, computers, cooking, drama etc. to groups of students.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

•Carry out the site’s weekly planned program of activities for students to develop and strengthen their academic and social skills.
•Instruct students of various age groups including 1:1, and small or large group instruction in homework and tutoring, arts and crafts, recreation, etc.
•Review program plans with the Site Coordinator, teachers who may be assigned to the program, and/or volunteers as appropriate, to ensure smooth implementation of academic and enrichment activities. As needed, select a variety of activities appropriate to students of various age groups and interests.
•Participate and interact with students at all times including in activities such as games, songs, arts and crafts, dance, theater, etc.
•Supervise students at all time for safety including transition from academic to enrichment activities and external programs that impact children’s recreation, social and cultural activities.
•Assist with developing and implementing discipline and classroom management techniques.
•Assist with setting up, maintaining and cleaning up program facilities.
•Instruct students in safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
•Promote the After School Program to the public.
•Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, parents and others.
•Assist with keeping accurate records as requested by Site Coordinator.
•Ensure the adherence to safe work practices and procedures including the safety of children being picked up, transitioning from classrooms to play areas, and in administering first aide for minor injuries.
•Perform appropriately in situations, utilizing tact, initiative, and good judgment including those situations focusing on student discipline or with communicating with parents or other staff.
•Refer all serious discipline and/or parent concerns and issues to Site Coordinator.
•Attend meetings and training workshops as requested.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Education:

•High school diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth
grade (GED), and
•Associate of Arts Degree or 48 semester units (NCLB) **  NOTE CHANGE WITH REGARD TO CODESP TEST, BELOW

•Previous work with children or child development units desired.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to:
Perform light physical exertion.
Utilize computers for student learning.
Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Work with diverse ethnic, gender and age and cultural groups.

Desired Knowledge of:
Basic First Aid and CPR.
Behavioral management strategies
Spanish communication skills are desirable

SUPERVISION:

Works under the supervision of the After School Site Coordinator and the District After School Coordinator.

PRESENT EMPLOYEES: Submit Classified Letter of Intent along with proof of Associate in Arts Degree or 48 semester units or a passing score on the CODESP test if taken through the District prior to June 1, 2008. Employees who do not have the required units may apply. If selected for a position, employee will be required to take and pass the CODESP test in order for job offer to be effective. If your present work schedule conflicts with the posted hours, you would need to resign from that position if offered the job. The hours are not flexible.
