FOOD SERVICE DOCK WORKER I BASIC FUNCTION: This position is responsible for proper counting, distribution, and loading of school meals and organization of all transport activities on the loading dock area of the central kitchen. Coordinate, monitor, and participate in the organization of meals, food, and supplies out of the central kitchen; receive daily food orders from schools; ensure proper count and daily delivery of food; coordinate loading of meals onto delivery trucks. Employees in this job class receive limited supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Employees in this job class assign, coordinate, and monitor the work of others in a lead capacity. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is an advanced journey/lead level classification. Employees allocated to this job class have lead supervisory responsibilities over assigned food service staff. This job class is critical in ensuring the proper delivery of food out of the central kitchen and the smooth, efficient flowing operation on the dock area. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Coordinates, monitors, and participates in the counting, organizing and distribution of meal loading and distribution. 2. Oversees proper count, loading, and delivery of meals to appropriate schools. 3. Counts out average quantity of food/supplies for delivery to school sites, assembles racks/dollies on dock. Adds or subtracts meals as needed. 4. Coordinates and assists in loading meals into and out of transport vehicles. 5. Maintains daily records on meals delivered to school sites. 6. Answers phone to receive orders from various schools. 7. Monitors the departure of the transport vehicles to assure orders are delivered on time. 8. Assists in the training of new food service workers. 9. Accurately counts and performs mathematical calculations using basic arithmetic. 10. Oversees the accurate record keeping related to food transport operations. 11. Meets the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties such as heavy lifting of food racks and equipment. 12. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. 13. Performs related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL ABILITY TO: 1. Stand continuously throughout the work day. 2. Walk, bend, twist and turn continuously. 3. Lift and carry 25 to 50 pounds daily. 4. Push and pull fully loaded dollies of food frequently. 5. Reach at all levels, primarily between shoulder and waist level. 6. Use both hands and wrists for both fine and gross manipulation and grasping. 7. Speak, hear, smell, and see. 8. Crawl and kneel rarely. 9. Work in an outside environment. LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid and appropriate California Driver’s license including a safe driving record. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to sufficient experience, training, and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily on dock area of production kitchen; outside working environment subject to rain, cold, wind, winter conditions; as well as hot spring/summer conditions.
