DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in operating grounds equipment used in mowing and trimming grass in an assigned area of the district; and performs related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: • Operates power edger, trimmer and other grounds equipment in maintaining and preparing grounds • Operates trucks and trailers in hauling this equipment • Checks, adjusts, and lubricates equipment • Inspects sprinkler heads and water lines • Performs groundskeeping or general maintenance duties when not engaged in lawn maintenance • May train groundskeeper in performance of mowing and lawn maintenance duties DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: • A combination of training and experience equivalent to two years of experience in general construction and maintenance work. Knowledge of: • The operation, use and routine maintenance of grounds power equipment • The methods, supplies and tools used in caring for landscaped areas Skills in: • Operating and servicing power equipment • Understanding and following oral and written directions Ability to: • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others • Perform the duties of the position with or without accommodation Licenses and Certificates: • A valid California driver’s license
