------------------------------------------ POSITION: This is work of moderate difficulty providing specialized instructional support services in a special education setting. ------------------------------------------ Please see Job Description. ------------------------------------------ SELECTION PROCEDURE: Candidates must pass each part of an examination which consists of the following: A review and evaluation of the candidate's application material (qualifying). Pass the Proficiency exam (will accept CBEST in lieu of). Areas covered on the written examination are math, reading, and writing. Those candidates successful in the above areas will be invited to the interview portion of the examination. All material to be reviewed by the screening committee must be submitted with the application. If you have proof of CBEST of official transcripts showing 48 or more college units, please submit them with your application. -------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMINATION INFORMATION: LOCATION: Dent Center (District Office), 1936 Carlotta Drive, Concord DATE: Every Wednesday TIME: 9 AM (Please come 10 minutes before start time) (Approximate test time 3 hours); no admittance once testing begins PLEASE ATTEND ONE TESTING AT ABOVE STATED DATE AND TIME (unless you have proof of CBEST). REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must possess the knowledge and skills required for successful job performance as follows: TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: • A combination of training and experience equivalent to high school graduation. • One year experience working with students or the completion of one year of college-level coursework in a field related to the particular assignment. • Successful completion of the Instructional Assistant Proficiency Examination and/or hold a CBEST. • Commitment to complete two required training courses or in-services within the first six months of being hired. KNOWLEDGE OF: • The appropriate subject matter, program and special instructional or communication procedures • The individual differences in children • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and mathematics • General classroom procedures, practices and equipment SKILL IN: • Applying special instructional or communication procedures • Following oral and written directions • Communicating clearly both orally and in writing • Recordkeeping and providing clerical support duties • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with school staff, students and parents • Reading, writing and arithmetic • Keeping school and student matters confidential • Understand and appropriately respond to the needs of severely challenged and emotionally disturbed students and to possess a genuine liking for students LICENSES: A valid California Driver's license may be required. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid required (can be obtained within first 6 months after hire)
