POSITION:  Act as a resource and liaison among central office staff, school site staff, parents, and community members to resolve a wide variety of issues related to the educational program; independently perform operational and technical duties related to parent engagement and department support. 

REQUIREMENTS:  All applicants must possess the knowledge and skill required for successful job performance as follows:

 Training and Experience:

  • Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to two years of recent, related experience in a public contact assignment.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license
  • Oral and written skills in Spanish or other foreign language may be required for designated assignments.

Knowledge and Skill in:

  • Plan and organize work to meet schedules and time lines.
  • Maintain records; prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak English/Spanish preferred.
  •  Knowledge of family dynamics and culture.
  • Knowledge of program objectives and the programs and services available for students.
  • Knowledge of multiple methods of meeting student needs in an appropriate and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of relevant public and private community agencies and informational resources available to students and family.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and collaborative working relationships with families, teachers, educational and community agencies and the public in general.
  • Ability to recognize situations which require referral to outside agencies.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Act as a resource and liaison among central office staff, school site staff, parents, and community members to resolve a wide variety of issues related to the educational program. 
  • Act as an advocate for schools; respond to parent complaints and participate in parent meetings; represent the district and/or department at meetings.
  • Maintain ongoing, effective communication with parents, schools, community, and central office staff regarding school programs; develop and support parent outreach programs.

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE:  All applicants are required to take and pass the written examination scheduled below.  Areas covered on the examination are human relations, attendance, proofreading, spelling, composition of a WORD document, creation of an EXCEL table, and timed typing at 45 wpm net.  Calculators may be used on the examination but will not be provided.  Computers will be used for typing exercises.  Typing certificate for 45 net wpm within the last six months will be accepted or applicants may take timed typing test at exam (no online Web Certificates accepted). Certificate must be submitted by final filing date with your application.
