DEFINITION
Under the supervisionof the Director of Information Technology, assists with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of desktop computers, software and peripheral devices.  Performs routine maintenance, service and repair of desktop computers and related peripherals.  Maintains inventory and repair records, and performs other related work as assigned.

DUTIES  

  • Delivers, installs and configures computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, and othe related peripherals;
  • Performs diagnostics for malfunctions and repairing compjters, monitors, printers, keyboards, and other related peripherals;
  • Performs basic repairs by replacing defective electronic or mechanical components, reassembling, and checking equipment for correct operation;
  • Performs installation of common software packages;
  • Instructs operators in the basic care ad operation of computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, and other related peripherals;
  • Provides technical assistance to schools and offices over the phone regarding hardware/software problems;
  • Travels to district sites to troubleshoot equipment problems and assist users in the resolution of computer hardware problems;
  • Determines if equipment is under warranty, contacts the appropriate vendor and arranges/tracks repairs;
  • Performs basic network monitoring, configuration and repair.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Basic computer and network terminology and operations for both PC and Macintosh platforms;
  • Basic safety regulations and practices applicable to electrical and electronic equipment;
  • Standard computer software applications;
  • Methods, tools, materials and equipment necessary to install and maintain computers and peripherals;
  • Basic installation and use of common computer software packages;
  • Peripheral equipment such as modems, printers, scanners, CD-ROM drives and monitors;
  • Internet applications and basic web page development;
  • Current computer operating systems and their configuration;

Ability to:

  • Learn characteristics of new models of computers, monitors, printers and other peripheral devices;
  • Learn new computer software pakcages;
  • Interpret and follow written and oral intructions;
  • Communicate with non-technical personnel on technical matters in both oral and written form;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others contacted during the course of the workday.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

Experience:  

One year of paid experience that includes the maintenance, repair and overhaul of computers and related equipment;

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twlefth grade supplemented by coursework in the repair of computers, monitors, printers, and other peripheral devices.  College coursework in computer sicence or related field;

License and Certificate Requirement

A+ Certification or equivalent certification (desired);
A valid California Driver's License

OTHER 

Performs other related duties as assigned.
