RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the manager of Behavioral Support Services, the Behavior Specialist will provide support to students exhibiting academic, social and behavioral challenges, with a focus on identifying skills necessary to achieve social competence in the school setting, while preventing and addressing challenging behaviors. The Behavior Specialist will work directly and indirectly with students, using best practices in social skills training support to promote social skills acquisition, enhancing skill performance, removing interfering problem behaviors, and facilitating generalization of pro-social behavior. The Behavior Specialist will collaborate with various school teams to achieve best outcomes for student success. Specific duties include being able to: Design and/or implement social groups and 1:1 sessions at the appropriate level for students targeted for interventions; Complete comprehensive behavioral assessments; write BIPs and FBAs Train and supervise employees who implement social groups and behavioral intervention plans; Ability to follow behavior intervention plans in a consistent manner; Provide in-service trainings for teachers and other staff on strategies related to promoting and teaching pro-social behaviors; Conduct observations, collect data, and report on program and/or intervention effectiveness; Work and communicate with other agencies to ensure that all aspects of the student’s program are addressed; Work effectively with students and colleagues; Function as a positive, contributing member of the educational team; Attend IEP meetings and contribute to the goal development and behavior planning for students; Fulfill all duties as assigned.
