Job Summary

The Head Softball Coach position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student athletes and assistant coaches within the program. The Head Coach will instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The Head Coach reports to and works closely with the Athletic Director to determine goals and direction of the program. The Head Coach is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student-athlete participating in their program for Palo Alto High School. Coaching Duties: ? Coordinates the training, instruction, conditioning, and selection of athletes at all levels within the program. ? Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff. ? Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season’s end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants. ? Verifies that all athletes have all forms and obligations cleared through the Athletic Trainer’s office before athletes are allowed to tryout/practice. ? Advises the Athletic Director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes. ? Assists the Athletic Director in hiring qualified staff as assistant coaches. ? Coordinates the activities and responsibilities of assistant coaches. ? Develops and organizes effective practices for athletes that teach skills and strategies needed to compete in SCVAL and CCS/CIF post-season play. ? Works with the Palo Alto High School Athletic Director to develop a schedule for practices and games during the season. This includes working and communicating throughout the season to make sure all athletes are aware of practice times and schedules. ? Demonstrates and generates among your staff and players an attitude of good sportsmanship and fair play by adhering to the CIF/CCS and SCVAL Sportsmanship Guidelines. ?
