San Rafael City Schools has an opening for an associate mental health/social work/professional clinical counselor. This person will be unlicensed, working towards licensure.

  • POSITION

The School-Based Mental Health Associate will provide individual and group counseling to adolescent students in the San Rafael City Schools District. Collateral contact with families, school staff, or other community providers will also be required. Some of the students may have learning, behavioral, and emotional disabilities. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual and group therapy to referred students, on the school campus 
  • Interact and collaborate with the students’ guardians and appropriate school staff 
  • Maintain required written documentation (intakes, treatment plans, notes) in a timely manner 
  • Refer students out as necessary for adjunctive services 
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff in support of the students’ welfare 
  • Maintain confidentiality, while understanding and adhering to the limitations of confidentiality (i.e. mandated reporting, danger to self/others) 
  • Remain current on the recent laws and ethical codes regarding providing counseling services to minors

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate MSW, MFT Associate, OR Professional Clinical Counseling Intern.
  • Must pass a criminal background check/fingerprint screen and TB test

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • The Associate MFT/SW/PCC has the ability to:
  •  
    • Work as a member of a students’ support team
    • Bilingual ability highly preferred
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of psychotherapy
    • Utilize clinical skills needed to provide therapeutic services to a range of clients.                
    • Provide consistent and reliable therapeutic services
    • Interacts professionally with other disciplines, school staff, and within the community. 
    • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing
    • Documents provided services in effectively, consistently, and in a timely manner
    • Establishes and maintains rapport as well as appropriate boundaries with students and other members of the students’ support team

BENEFITS

  • Weekly group and individual supervision towards licensure is provided
  • Stipend of $28,000/year for 4 days per week, $35,000/year for 5 days per week
