WRIGHT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT MUSIC TEACHER Certificated Job Description DEFINITION Under the direct supervision of the site Administrator and the indirect supervision of the District Superintendent, coordinate the schools’ and District’s Music Program (instrumental and vocal) for students. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Instruct beginning and advanced instrumental and choral classes (group lessons, band and chorus) in technique, solfeggio, and note reading. Select students for classes. Organize class schedules (group lessons, band and chorus rehearsals). Assign school instruments. Select music and provide special arrangements (done by instructor) as necessary. Follow established guidelines for the purchase of supplies, materials, and instruments. Maintain school instruments and arrange for repairs (minor repairs and maintenance is done by instructor). Maintain an accurate inventory of all musical instruments, accounting for all District instruments. Assist the District in establishing a budget for the Music Program and include an equipment replacement plan, repair priority list, supply and uniform needs. Maintain uniforms. Prepare special programs for assemblies, parents clubs and outside school performances (festivals, honor bands, dedications, etc.). As directed, prepare students in the band for marching in local parades. Conduct classroom singing in addition to chorus. Possess skills and experience in vocal music instruction including classroom music and choral groups. Possess skills in classroom management and discipline. Possess skills in organizing and scheduling. Credentials: General or Standard Elementary teaching credential with Single Subject Music. Experience: Three years of successful classroom teaching, preferably at more than one grade level, is desired. Personal Qualities: Appearance, grooming and personality that establish a desirable example for pupils. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health. Better than average recommendations from previous teaching supervisors, or other professionals who have observed the performance of the teacher. Must be able to adapt to sharing work space and activity times if necessary. Ability to communicate and work well with parents. Revised: 11/91
