Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

QUALIFICATIONS:

-have met a rigorous standard of quality that demonstrates, through formal academic assessment:  
a. knowledge of, and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and math; or
b. knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing in reading readiness, writing readiness, and math readiness, as appropriate of the standards for Instructional Aides.

- able to tutor and help students in basic high school subjects, especially including Pre-Algebra and Algebra

- able to help with organizing data through Excel, PowerSchool, and similar applications

- patience in working with students of varying abilities, from pre-literate through college-level

This position works with incarcerated adult students in L.A. County Jails (Men's Central Jail and Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown L.A.) who are working toward their high-school diploma.  Some positions may also be assigned to a community site in the cities of Gardena, Inglewood, Lawndale, and East L.A.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

•Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises;

•Tutors individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities;

•Monitors and assists students in drill, practice, and study activities and follow-up learning activities;

•Prepares and assists in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with individual or groups of students;

•Maintains a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information;

•May administer and score a variety of criterion referenced and general aptitude tests, and records the test results;

•Requisitions, stores and maintains an appropriate inventory of textbooks, instructional materials, supplies, and equipment;

•Other duties as assigned;
