POSITION:                         Teacher Assistant – AVID

REPORTS TO:                      Administrator

EVALUATED BY:                   Administrator

WORK YEAR:                       180 Workdays/ 6.0 hours

SALARY RANGE:                  $13.37 per hour

SUMMARY:

Works directly with assigned classroom teachers (AVID teacher) to tutor students & facilitate a collaborative setting.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow. 

2.      Must attend training classes and will utilize the AVID learning strategies.

3.      Become familiar with textbooks and materials used by AVID students.

4.      Facilitate the tutorial learning process and implement AVID methodologies.

5.      Takes an active role in developing academic and personal strengths of AVID students.

6.      Encourage students to enroll in a four-year college or university after high school.

7.      Adhere to district/site policies and procedures.

8.      Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

•        High school diploma or GED required

•        Possess at least 48 semester units of university coursework

•        Have a passing score of 70% on the District academic proficiency test

•        Must be currently enrolled college student with strong math and/or English background

•       Excellent role models of motivated, organized, and successful college students who believe that the AVID students will succeed too

•       Meet regularly to discuss student progress and to confer with teacher about future tutorial plans

•       Ability to effectively communicate with students and school personnel

•       Ability to perceive students’ needs and develop positive relationships

•       Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

•       Ability to think quickly and show patience

•       Must be available to work Monday through Friday during school hours
