PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Controller supervises, coordinates and performs duties related to accounting, payroll and fiscal operations. The Board of Education designates this position as Management. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and experience in modern, school district accounting practices, budgeting and budget controls, methods and techniques; knowledge of modern business methods and techniques, including data processing applications; knowledge and experience in school law; knowledge and experience in payroll, purchasing and general accounting control; skill in collecting assembling, and presenting various data with well-defined, recommended or alternative courses of action for administrative decision; skill in planning, programming and controlling District financial resources to obtain maximum educational effectiveness; skill in interpreting and comprehending legislative proposals and federal, state county and local rules and regulations as they pertain to school finance; skill in managing and training staff; skill in developing positive working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors; skill in developing and conducting effective written and oral presentations to professional and lay groups; willingness to attend Board of Education and other public meetings regarding District finances; willingness to work additional hours as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting or finance; four years of progressively responsible broad-based financial management experience, preferably in school finance or a public agency.
