SUMMARY

The Director of Information Technology shall be under the direct supervision of the Superintendent/designee and serves as the technical expert in information technology; serves as the district's primary source for information, consultation and recommendations on all matters related to the implementation, maintenance, configuration, and administration of district's computer systems. The Director of Information Technology shall be familiar, and comply, with all collective bargaining contracts pertinent to this position and shall adhere to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county and school district governing board.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Manages the district's Information Technology department to meet the needs of the users, managers and outside agencies/vendors.
  • Serves as the district's primary source for information, consultation and recommendations on all matters related to the implementation, maintenance, configuration, and administration of district's information technology systems.
  • Confers with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
  • Directs data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Initiates new and/or builds on existing organizational policies and guidelines in developing a single department that meets required state and federal compliance standards and promotes achieving optimal department efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises implementation of network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Recommends changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Oversees the diagnosis of hardware and software problems, and the replacement of defective components.
  • Oversees the operation of master systems in order to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
  • Supervises the performance of routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
  • Works on problems or projects of diverse scope and maximum complexity where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of multiple factors.
  • Oversees and ensures that responses to user problems, issues, and requests are addressed.
  • Oversees the implementation, maintenance, and configuration of system enhancements and software fixes.
  • Plans for and supports the processing of all upgrades, patches, and major releases for the district's computer systems and software.
  • Must be able to develop contracts, leases and other agreements to meet District needs.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings to stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of information technology and network administration.
  • Interviews, hires, supervise, evaluates, and disciplines subordinates.
  • Manages software licensing and ensures all district owned programs are properly licensed.
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning staff, students and their families.
  • Maintains an acceptable attendance record.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly work station.
  • Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of this position.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned on an equitable basis.

  • Direct the Information Technology function of the district effectively.
  • Oversee and provide technical expertise in the installation and operation of a variety of computer network equipment/devices.
  • Oversee the diagnosis of malfunctions in microcomputer hardware and software and network problems.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Supervise the restoration of computers and related equipment to operating standards.
  • Attend conferences and workshops to maintain current knowledge of regulations and requirements and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of public, staff and management groups, including writing complex proposals, presentations and reports.
  • Develop and provide effective presentations to administrators and the Board.
  • Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare the annual budget, monitor and administer the budgetary expenditures.
  • Work from plans, technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
  • Make effective decisions and take independent action.
  • Supervise, evaluate and discipline subordinates.
  • Interview and select employees and recommend termination and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates.
  • Demonstrate organizational, time management, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Schedule work and prioritize workload and conflicting demands.
  • Initiate the planning phases for highly complex, multi-faceted projects, involving extensive customization and/or complex platform architecture, spanning across multiple organizational operations, with project life-cycles reaching up to 10 years.
  • Work independently with little direction and provide work direction to others.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with the public, staff, subordinates, and administrators.
  • Promote a collaborative team environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and install computer and network hardware
  • Ability to type reports and other materials; bending, reaching, hearing to answer telephones; speaking to exchange information and sitting and operating a keyboard to enter data into a computer terminal for extended periods of time; standing for extended periods and lifting/carrying computer equipment.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate to high stress level.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIOINS

  • Primarily indoors.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

  • A minimum of five years’ experience is required
