CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER AIDE

 

 

DEFINITION

 

Under supervision – assists teachers in keeping children properly occupied in their learning experience; assists in planning activities and projects; assists in keeping rooms orderly; oversees children; and performs related duties as required.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

 

  • Assists Children’s Center Teachers in keeping children properly and constructively occupied so that they may maximize their learning experiences;
  • Oversees and assists in controlling children’s behavior, and situations which develop between children;
  • Provides children with leadership and example;
  • Accompanies children on walks to park, at play or on field trips;
  • Assists in planning activities and projects for children;
  • Stimulates children’s interests;
  • Makes sure that supplies needed are on hand;
  • Assists children with activities and projects for children;
  • Helps teacher keep rooms orderly and clean;
  • Helps with snacks and lunches;
  • Oversees children resting.
  • Positions in this Class report to a Child Development Center Teacher for assignments, and are responsible for assisting teachers to whom assigned;
  • provides interest and leadership to children in their learning experiences;
  • Helps teachers with rooms and other activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in working with and training pre-school children;
  • Possession of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent.
  • Some advanced training in the areas of pre-school or children’s center activities and leadership is desirable.

Good Knowledge of:

  • Practical knowledge of young children’s interests and motivations;
  • Activities and projects which will appeal to young children and further their learning;
  • Psychology of pre-school children and their constructive control;
  • Understanding of young children from diverse economic and social backgrounds.
  • Ability to interest, lead and work with children constructively;
  • Treat all children fairly and objectively;
  • Design or assist in designing activities and projects which will appeal to children and contribute to their learning;
  • Provide a pleasing classroom environment;
  • Insure safety of children during activities.
  • Safe working methods and procedures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting, pushing and/or pulling objects normally does not exceed 50 pounds and is a frequent aspect of the job.
  • Mobility to stand, stop, reach and bend.
  • Mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
