HVAC MECHANIC I
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor, check, replace mechanical parts, repair, service and perform preventive maintenance on heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Lubricate, clean and adjust heating, ventilating, refrigeration, air cooling and air conditioning motors, pumps, fans and other equipment. E
Replace switches, controls, thermostats, electric motors, belts and other major parts. E
Clean and adjust pilot lights; change furnace filters as directed. E
Deliver and pick up parts and supplies as directed. E
Assist Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanic II as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods, materials and equipment used in the heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning trade.
Health and safety regulations.
Reading and writing communications skills.
ABILITY TO:
Interpret and work from schematics, drawings and prints.
Diagnose defects and install, repair and maintain various equipment.
Maintain and use mechanical tools.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Lift heavy objects.
Observe safe work practices.
Perform the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year experience working on a variety of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; a two year college level vocational training program in heating, ventilation and air conditioning is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
Shop environment or at various sites.
Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned maintenance tools and equipment.
Climbing ladders and working from heights.
Crawling, bending, kneeling or crouching.
Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding sixty (60) pounds.
Heavy physical labor.
Seeing to perform maintenance activities, read materials and drive a vehicle.
HAZARDS:
Electrical power supply and high voltage.
Working at heights.
Exposure to vapors and fumes.
