APPLE VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
CLASS TITLE: CUSTODIAN III
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of cleaning and custodial duties during evening hours; maintain classrooms, offices and facilities at a comprehensive high school site in an orderly and secure condition; serve as a team lead and provide guidance to custodial team; coordinate and prioritize work flow to accommodate athletic and special events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Incumbents in the classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. (E1- frequent duties, E2- moderate duties, E3- occasional duties).
? Train and provide work guidance to custodial team at a high school site. (E1)
? Receive and store cleaning supplies; ensure adequate materials and equipment. (E1)
? Coordinate with Athletic and Activities directors for scheduling of athletic and special events. (E1)
? Communicate with site personnel and administrators regarding facility concerns and special custodial requests. (E1)
? Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, cafeterias and other facilities in an orderly and secure condition. (E1)
? Maintain an organized and safe working environment. (E1)
? Receive and process deliveries. (E1)
? Stock paper, supplies and fill dispensers. (E1)
? Empty, wash and line trash receptacles. (E1)
? Clean restrooms and refill supplies (E1)
? Complete all steps necessary to clean, protect, and maintain floors. (E1)
? Pick up litter and sweep to maintain clean facilities and grounds. (E1)
? Clean and disinfect high touch areas. (E1)
? Clean chalkboards, white boards and erasers; dust furniture, desks and other areas. (E1)
? Maintain security of assigned areas by locking doors, gates and windows and setting alarms. (E1)
? Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles, make minor repairs and adjustments to furniture and equipment. (E2)
? Operate a variety of equipment required to maintain and clean a school campus including but not limited to; power washers, sweepers, vacuum cleaners, ladders, etc. (E1)
? Move desks and furniture and prepare for meetings and special events. (E2)
? Participate in major cleaning projects (E3)
? Coordinate and assist the set up and tear down of a variety of events. (E1)
? Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A. High School Diploma or equivalent.
B. Two (2) years of custodial experience. Or Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates ability to perform the essential duties may be substituted for the required experience and/or education.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
? A certificate stating freedom from Tuberculosis.
? Valid First Aid Certification.
? Valid CPR Certification preferred.
? A valid California Driver’s License.
? Current DMV printout upon completion of application.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
? Modern cleaning methods, equipment and materials used in custodial work.
? Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy.
? Principles of crew leadership.
? Preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures.
? Operation and care of cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaner, buffer, waxer and stripper.
? Health and safety regulations.
? Basic Math Concepts.
? Modern office equipment.
ABILITY TO:
? Establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff, and community members
? Understand and apply the District’s organizational structure, operations, policies and procedures.
? Establish and revise priorities as needed to accomplish assignments.
? Follow federal, state and district regulations, procedures and policies.
? Ability to serve as a team leader to train and provide guidance to others.
? Clean and maintain classrooms, offices and other facilities in an orderly and secure condition.
? Perform physical labor.
? Adhere to schedules and timelines
? Understand and follow oral and written directions.
? Operate modern office equipment and related software
? Use proper radio etiquette.
? Operate and drive vehicle in support of essential duties; observe legal and defensive driving practices
? Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
? Maintain and store cleaning supplies properly.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
? Standing or walking for extended periods of time.
? Bending or twisting at the waist.
? Reaching overhead and horizontally.
? Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of cleaning equipment.
? Lift, move, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
? Seeing and hearing to perform essential duties

ENVIRONMENT:
? Indoor and outdoor school campus environment.
? Subject to demanding time lines and constant interruptions.
? Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and fumes from cleaning agents and chemicals.
HAZARDS:
? Exposed to chemical agents and associated fumes from cleaning supplies.
? Exposed to dust and odors from cleaning agents and chemicals.
? The noise level is moderate.
? Subject to angry or disgruntled people.
? Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
? Exposure to human waste and bodily fluids.
