Description:

We are looking for an art teacher.  This position is for the 2017-2018 school year and the successful candidate will start as soon as possible.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Align planning to the Common Core Standards and student assessment data 
  • Use data-driven techniques to set goals for students 
  • Collaborate with other teachers to build differentiated learning plans for all students 
  • Maintain consistent communications with families regarding student progress 
  • Strong classroom management by clearly and consistently communicating and upholding school rules, values, and expectations in and out of the classroom 
  • Set an urgent, respectful, and positive tone in the classroom 
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge and understanding of the content matter 
  • Use a multitude of instructional strategies that are academically rigorous and highly engaging 
  • Execute detailed lesson plans mapped to specific Common Core standards 
  • Take responsibility for student progress; constantly working to respond to students’ need 
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional
    activities
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
  • Maintains appropriate stands of pupil behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement and behavior shaping procedures.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, staff, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Content Area Information
The High School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for teaching all sections of social studies courses for grade(s) assigned.

Competencies and Qualifications
The successful candidate will have proven success in implementing high-quality instruction that led to the improvement of student achievement in an urban school. S/he will possess exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to communicate clearly to multiple stakeholders. The successful candidate will also have:

  • A strong academic record with a Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university required; advanced degree in subject area preferred
  • State teaching certification in secondary content area
  • Extremely strong classroom management abilities
  • A strong belief that all students can succeed
  • An exceptional ability to respond well to feedback and implement it immediately
