CLASSIFICATION: Classified POSITION: Special Education Behaviorist PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Under general direction will provide supportive consultation services to assist staff and families in the development and implementation of comprehensive intervention plans for students with behavior disorders within Napa Valley Unified School District (NVUSD). Consultations will include but not be limited to, creation and implementation of positive behavioral supports, educational modifications, and accommodations, and staff training. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: •Collaborates with all site staff in the development and completion of various behavioral assessments (including FAAs, BIPS etc.). •Develop and conduct training for groups of school site administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, and paraprofessionals in the execution of various behavioral techniques. •Collaborates with all staff in the implementation of various behavioral intervention plans. •Ongoing consultation with psychologists, school site administrators and staff, teachers, paraprofessionals and parents. •Provide training and consultation in the adaptation of appropriate curriculum to various behavioral interventions. •Attend IEP meetings as a consultant and for the purpose of developing and monitoring behavioral intervention plans. •Prepare evaluations, assessments, and/or reports for the purpose of documentation of student behaviors. •Implement procedures to assess the need for additional staff in various classrooms, special instructional assistant assessment (SIA). • Participate in the development of and ongoing relationships with other agencies serving students with disabilities (i.e., California Children’s Services, Napa Mental Health, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Non-Public Agencies and Schools). •Assist in the coordination of staff professional development activities. •Establish a positive working relationship with parents, teachers, instructional support staff, and administrators who are involved with the education of students with disabilities. •Supervise independence facilitators •Represent the District at mediation and due process proceeding. •Prepare a variety of professionally written documents in a timely fashion as required. •Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS: •Bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement (but Master’s degree is preferred) in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, education or other related fields. •The following behavior analysis certification board classifications (or eligibility) are highly preferred; Board Certified Behavior Analyst™ (BCBA®) and Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst™ (BCABA®) •Minimum of a years experience working with students with ASD and related disorders. •Experience working as or under the direct supervision of a behavior specialist in public education classrooms for students with mild to severe ASD and other developmental delays, preferably across age groups. •Experience in understanding, interpreting and developing specific educationally necessary program plans for children with autism and related disorders. •Experience with and/or training in a variety of appropriate curriculum, instruction, classroom management and intervention techniques, e.g., communication training, parent training, PECS, Natural Language Paradigm, Pivotal Response Training, TEACCH, social skills training, applied behavior analysis (discreet trail) . •Experience in conducting and implementing FAAs, BIPs and BSPs •Possession of a valid California driver’s license. •Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with school district personnel, outside agencies and parents •Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully and persuasively, both orally and in writing. •Ability to independently produce /type professionally written documents.
