POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

CLASS TITLE:  THEATER FACILITY COORDINATOR/IT TEAM MEMBER

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the general supervision of the Instructional Technology and Career Technical Education administrator this person oversees the use of the theatres by all users and will coordinate/organize technical aspects for any productions or other uses of the theater to ensure the safety of equipment, students, personnel and the general public, according to district regulations.  This person will instruct, train and supervise students and other theater employees relating to theatre equipment and facilities and support site/district IT teams as assigned.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Use specialized theater knowledge to provide technical direction and control over all theater systems including sound, lighting, projection, rigging, counterweight system, and front of house procedures involved with productions with an emphasis on safety
  • Carry out necessary, regular inspections for security and safety
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to the building and the equipment, sound, lighting, counterweight system
    • Identify and report other needs for maintenance to the site manager
    • Supervise students, employees, community groups, and other users during rehearsals and performances according to established safety guidelines (knowing who is allowed to perform certain jobs according to their level of training and oversee the follow through.)
  • Instruct, train and supervise student assistants and other employees, community groups and other users in technical theater practices. 
  • Perform technical assistance, as needed for the facility user, including lighting, sound, rigging, and/or other particular needs. Coordinate such needs ahead of production and employ appropriate staffing.
  • Support of site and district IT teams, with other technology duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Maintain an up-to-date master calendar of all theatre use        
  • Oversee the handling and/or handle production related paperwork and communication with the various users of the facilities to ensure optimal use of facility and equipment
  • Assist in development of theater goals and procedures, including the facilities use procedures to schedule the use of the theatre.
  • Handle concerns and complaints from theater user
  • Develop rules and policies for use of facility and equipment
  • Exercise discretion and judgment in comparing and evaluating options and making decisions for the most effective use of the theater facilities, equipment, individuals, and other resources
  • Advise IT/CTE administrator and Director of Facilities on equipment needs and facility improvement
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties

                                                                               

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Specialized knowledge of and experience with theater productions, facilities, technology, equipment and practices
  • Specialized knowledge of and experience with stagecraft and stage operations, including lighting, sound, rigging and other stage equipment, and theater safety
  • Communication and problem-solving skills - Communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written forms with administrators, staff, students, parents and the community at large
  • Proper English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation
  • Basic computer skills, including word-processing, spreadsheet, and data base software, and desktop publishing
  • Work effectively with little or no supervision
  • Ability to handle routine problem-solving maintenance and repairs to theater and the equipment, sound, lighting, counterweight system
  • Meet physical/and or mental requirements associated with tasks outlined in this position description

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

College training or experience in theater arts preferred with emphasis in technical theatre. Experience should cover a wide range of duties with increasing responsibilities.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance

Evidence of TB clearance

Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

School office and theater environment; subject to frequent interruptions.

Standing for long periods of time.
