JOB DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides instructional program geared to meet the individual needs of the special education students.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Student Services and the Principal
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists students in developing the skills and attitudes necessary to become responsible, productive, and active members of their community.
2. Works out individualized programs as needed.
3. Provides academic skills needed in practical situations of daily living, (practical application of basic school subjects).
4. Provides sufficient flexibility to include provisions for the wide range of individual differences.
5. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
6. Assists students in developing habits that promote personal health, physical development and safety.
7. Advises and counsels students and parents in matters concerning student achievement, attendance and behavior.
8. Serves on district and school committees as required.
9. Participates in faculty meetings PTA meetings, and other community groups as requested.
10. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
11. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
12. Keeps abreast of the latest testing, teaching methodologies and practical applications.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED
EXERCISED: Students in activities under his/her direction and assigned instructional aides.
RECEIVED: Director of Student Services and the Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid California credential authorizing service in designated area.

A valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with an Early Childhood Special Education authorization or other appropriate Special Ed credential/authorization is required. An English Learner authorization is preferred. *As of 1/1/2017 it is required for all educators to have a Certificate of Clearance (COC) on file. A copy of your COC must be attached to your application. If not please apply at http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/submit-online.html. Intern qualified candidates will be considered. Candidates who hold an out of state teaching credential/certificate will be considered. Attach a copy of your out of state credential to your application.
