IMPERIAL COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION EDUCATIONAL SERVICES CLASS TITLE: Coordinator, Secondary Language Arts BASIC FUNCTION: The Coordinator, Secondary Language Arts, under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, will work with local school and district personnel to improve Language Arts achievement for Imperial County students. The Coordinator will provide professional development and curriculum support based upon California Reading/Language Arts Standards to secondary schools. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: · Assist school districts in the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment to achieve language arts standards at least as rigorous as the California Standards for Language Arts. · Provide relevant resources, including coaching and model lessons, for schools targeting improvement in reading/language arts. · Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of countywide professional development and other support services to increase student achievement in reading/language arts. · Provide coaching and link low performing schools to relevant resources for improvement in CAT6, CST, CAHSEE, and other achievement measures. · Collect and analyze existing countywide language arts data on student achievement to assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of professional development, curriculum and other targeted language arts support. · Facilitate follow up support for professional development enabling teachers to implement instructional materials for students to demonstrate mastery of selected language arts standards. · Participate in ICOE School Support Team training sessions. · Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: · Exemplary teaching proficiency, especially as related to language arts and implementation of appropriate curriculums · Demonstrated experience in curriculum development · Knowledge of California Reading/Language Arts Standards · Ability to bring people together for collaborative work · Knowledge and use of school improvement and change theory · Skill in collecting and using data to plan and evaluate programs · Effective English communication and presentation skills · Demonstrated leadership abilities · Capacity to mentor/coach other teachers · Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients and coworkers · Capacity to respond to staff development needs of clients at all experience levels EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: · Minimum five years successful elementary and/or secondary teaching experience. Must possess a valid California teaching credential, driver's license and minimum vehicle insurance required by law. · CLAD, BCLAD or other preparation for teaching second language learners, preferable. · Administrative credential or reading specialist required. · Administrative experience desirable.
