About the Employer

Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print

CMP is a proud partner of the Sacramento County BTSA Consortium. BTSA, short for Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment, is the vehicle in which teachers with SB 2042 credentials complete induction requirements to apply for their professional clear teaching credentials.

CMP BTSA is now preparing for another year of excellence in providing new teacher support and development. The core of our program success is our team of CMP Support Providers who walk along side their assigned teacher(s) during their induction journey.

“Even as a veteran teacher, learning never ends. BTSA has helped me to become a better teacher by reflecting on my own teaching practices as I help a newer teacher do the same.” This is the shared sentiment of many of our Support Providers!!

BTSA also offers opportunity to expand leadership skills through training and experience: BTSA Support Providers participate in a wide range of training to include effective communication strategies, interpersonal relationship building, observation and mentorship skills, and a better understanding of adult learners.

Successful Support Provider candidates will possess the following characteristics:
o Demonstrated mastery and application of Montessori pedagogy
o Knowledge and successful application of best teaching practices and Common Core Standards
o Demonstrated understanding of California Standards of the Teaching Profession (CSTP's)
o Ability to work with a variety of personalities, flexibility and team spirit
o Attention to detail and deadlines, creative problem solving skills
o Ability to provide support, create challenge and offer vision to another
o Genuine desire to serve as a growth agent for other colleagues
o Willingness to reflect upon their own teaching practice

Qualifications:
o A Professional Clear California Teaching Credential or pending recommendation for clear credential;
o At least five years of teaching experience including a minimum of one year within the CMP network;
o At least two years of teaching experience in a Montessori environment;
o Montessori teacher certification for the grade level in which the teacher teaches.

Once trained, Support Providers shall engage in the following annual responsibilities:
o Attend one Support Provider training update at the beginning of the new school year;
o Engage in weekly meetings with participating teacher;
o Complete periodic classroom observations and facilitate formative assessment of teaching practice;
o Assist partipating teacher in identifying professional development activites most appropriately matched to the teacher's identified growth areas, and attend a minimum of two professional development events each year with participating teacher;
o Attend four consortium-wide Benchmark/Module seminars hosted by SCOE;
o Attend one year-end summative event (Professional Induction Presentation);
o Attend/participate in CMP-specific "district meetings" for SP's and/or SP's/PT's as scheduled by the CMP BTSA Coordinator.  Generally, 2-3 district meetings will be scheduled per year.

Length of Assignment:
o Support Providers are most commonly assigned to a participating teacher for the duration of the participating teacher’s two year induction program. Less commonly, experienced Support Providers may complete a one year assignment with an Early Completion candidate.

Compensation:
o $1,200 per year per assigned teacher (usual assignment: 1-2 teachers);
o Completion bonus at end of year upon verification of the completion of all required Support Provider tasks;
o Paid professional development opportunities;
o Five full days of initial training and leadership skills development;
o Support Providers may use their BTSA experience to apply for graduate level units in leadership through CSUS, which are applicable for payscale credit.

Training Dates for new Support Providers (held at SCOE office):
o 2016 Summer training series: June 21-23, with two additional days to be completed during the school year (December 6 and January 11)  -OR-
o School Year training series: one day per month Sept 7, Oct 11, Nov 2,  Dec 6, Jan 11;
o Substitute expense covered for all approved SCOE BTSA events.
