CLASS TITLE: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT-BUSINESS SERVICES
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Superintendent, plan, organize and direct the activities and personnel of Fiscal Services, Budgeting, Food Nutrition Services, Maintenance and Operations Department, Transportation Services and Purchasing Services; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. May serve as acting Superintendent during the absence of the incumbent.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan, organize and direct the activities and personnel of Fiscal Services, Budgeting, Food Nutrition Services, Maintenance and Operations Department, Transportation Services and Purchasing Services. E
Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel; provide and assure adequate and proper in-service training for personnel regarding business services; recommend employment of maintenance, food nutrition, operations, transportation, fiscal services and budgeting personnel. E
Supervise and direct the functions of the Business office, including budgeting, payroll, purchasing, accounting, attendance and insurance programs. E
Monitor, control, and revise District budgets; direct and monitor the District's revolving cash fund; assist Principals and budget committees in the development of individual budgets, control of expenditures and inter-related funds; coordinate the audit of District; direct the production and distribution of departmental financial reports. E
Direct and manage the District's insurance program and employee fringe, health and welfare benefits programs. E
Interpret District policies and administrative regulations regarding matters related to assigned duties; interpret school boundaries. E
Provide overall direction to the management and maintenance of District buildings, facilities and resources; coordinate the use of school facilities for home and school clubs, recreation programs and local community use. E
Direct the Maintenance and Operations and Facilities Department in resolving accounting issues related to school construction, remodeling and other building or financial issues. E
Supervise the preparation of State and federal reimbursement applications, including State transportation reimbursement reports, special education, vocational education, the federal categorical aid programs and others. E
Perform duties as the District safety officer; coordinate safety programs for District employees including the District's disaster plan; establish and coordinate effective programs to promote student and staff safety. E
Supervise and direct the investment of District funds and the management of District assets.
Prepare a variety of reports as required; assure compliance with applicable federal, State, County and District regulations; direct District records management activities and programs.
Review major purchase requests and purchase orders issued by the District and approve as appropriate.
Attend and participate in Board meetings and other meetings as requested by the Superintendent.
Review District business forms, and records for changes or improvements.
Oversee and manage various District contracts.
May service as acting Superintendent in the absence of the incumbent.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Management of Transportation and Food Nutrition systems.
Principles of training and providing work direction.
Budget preparation and control.

Record-keeping techniques.
Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
ABILITY TO:
Direct the activities and personnel of Fiscal Services, Budgeting Food Nutrition Services, Maintenance and Operations Department, Transportation Services and Warehouse Services.
Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Work independently with little direction.

Meet schedules and time lines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in business management or related field and three years of increasingly responsible school business management experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment; subject to going from site to site to conduct work.
