RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the principal, the assistant principal is responsible for key site leadership/administrative functions including the ongoing development and improvement of the instructional program and school environment. The responsibilities of the position are varied and may include the following:
- Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
- Serves on educational committees with students, parents, and/or staff, in order to continually improve learning experiences for students and enhance home/school communications.
- Researches alternative methods of scheduling classes and implements procedures which facilitate the achievement of program goals.
- Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in District and site professional growth programs.
- Demonstrates positive attitude toward job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder.
- Has knowledge of local policies, state and federal laws relating to minors.
- Provides parent education opportunities.
- Fosters high academic expectations.
- Provides leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating improvements in the school’s instructional program.
- Observes and evaluates job performance of employees (supervision of certificated and classified staff).
- Coordinates on campus testing for SAT, ACT, AP, CAASPP and PSAT as well as SAT test preparation classes.
- Oversees academic support programs such as Associate Teaching and Math Tutoring as well as the College and Career Center.
- Coordinates the district career tech programs in conjunction with the Ventura County Office of Education – VC Innovates Program.
- Attends local university recruitment events and assists in selection and orientation of new certificated teachers and counselors.
- Supervises school functions as directed.
- Supervises the programming and registering of students; (e.g., course selection and assignment).
- Prepares the master schedule in cooperation with the principal and counselors.
- Responsible for textbook adoptions, implementation of the Integrated Math program and Get Focused, Stay Focused curriculum and University of California A-G course approvals.
- Coordinates WASC, Digital Nordhoff High School, and Summer School.
- Serves as the Special Education Liaison and supports implementation of IEP’s and 504 plans.
- Coordinates pupil services activities and programs with institutions of higher education, private and public agencies, and civic organizations.
- Participates on the District Leadership Team.
- Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may request.

- Ability to present ideas effectively orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of current curriculum concepts applicable to high schools in California.
- Ability to provide leadership in articulation with junior high school programs.
- Ability to work positively with a parent community with high expectations.
- Knowledge of effective methods of evaluation.
- Knowledge of effective administration methods and strategies.
