Elementary Roving Music Teacher

Job Description

  • Teaches general music as a traveling teacher at one or more of the District’s elementary schools fourth - sixth grade students
  • Provides elementary school students with instruction in playing musical instruments (orchestra) as well as instruction in reading music and singing.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Uses a variety of instructional materials
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functioning learning environment
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians to discuss student progress
  • Supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the school day
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing programs
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required
  • Guest Conductor at Elementary Honors Orchestra District-wide event
  • Assists with organizing and fixing District musical instruments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements / Qualifications

Certification authorizing the teaching of Instrumental Music to students. This position will focus on Grades 4-6 at various elementary schools. Single Subject Music Credential. This is an 80% assignment. Selected candidate could sub on the 5th day and receive substitute pay on that day.

All that is required for initial screening: complete and accurate application for employment, letter of introduction, resume, and three current (3-6 months) letters of reference. Fingerprint and TB clearances will be required before employment, as well as a physical exam (District-paid).
